Hostas
(Hosta spp)

Introduction

HostasHostas are a low growing leafy perennial that comes in different leaf colours and variegation patterns. It does best in a shady area away from direct sunlight. It is used in floral artwork and other bouquets to fill in an area. They can often be found under trees with some protection from direct sunlight. There used to be quite a successful export market from Southland until countries such as China showed up in the marketplace. It is not known if anyone is still selling from this area. There is still some potential to sell them to the local market, especially in the larger metropolitan areas.
