Some 96% of Southland dwellings can access either or both of Woosh Wireless and Telecom New Zealand for broadband Internet service. Ways to extend coverage to communities at the fringe of the networks are being investigated. Southland is served by two competitive mobile telephone companies, Telecom New Zealand and Vodafone. Telecom New Zealand and TelstraClear provide fibre-optic links on diverse, redundant routes to the rest of New Zealand and the world.
