DIGITAL SOUTHLAND

Some 96% of Southland dwellings are able to access low cost broadband Internet service from Woosh Wireless and Telecom New Zealand, while those in the remotest areas can access broadband Internet via satellite.

Southland enjoys reliable connection to the rest of the world via two route-diverse fibre-optic cables to Dunedin and onwards and another two fibre-optic cables via Queenstown, owned and operated by TelstraClear and Telecom New Zealand. Numerous digital microwave radio links provide service throughout the region and to Dunedin.

Venture Southland is currently assisting further development of telecommunications infrastructure and services in the region. These are set out in “Southland Digital Strategy: Connecting to our future”.
