sustainable business in southland
Looking to get moving on your sustainability journey? Southland businesses have access to a range of assistance. You'll find it all at www.sustainablesouthland.co.nz
Thank you to all the Steering Group members and Liaison Group members who continue to contribute to this project. Thanks to all the Southland businesses who continue to keep up informed on their needs.
Background
The regional strategy "Sustainable Business in Southland" was endorsed by the project steering group in December 2008. The strategy identifies nine strategic actions to address regional gaps between business needs and available assistance. This strategy has since been endorsed by Southland District Council, Gore District Council and Invercargill City Council; it has been noted by Environment Southland.
The first action was the establishment of a regional Sustainability Liaison Group of programme providers to ensure a co-ordinated approach to delivery of business support. This liaison group met for the first time on 5 May 2009. Each member of the group represents some kind of existing support for the business community, with regards to helping businesses in their sustainability journey. Establishing this formal group enables all organisations to provide this support in a more co-ordinated manner, as well as the region having a group of experts to approach for advice on any new resource development. They share information and experiences, working together to better understand business motivations to implement sustainable practices. They maximise the business community's awareness of assistance by utilising each members information channels. They will continue to communicate effectively to ensure that there is no unnecessary overlaps as their respective programmes expand.
