I am always on the lookout for great places to take the kids during the summer holidays. After a recent family weekend to The Catlins, I'm now convinced that this is the best playground right on our back door step. Here are my five family-friendly reasons why you should explore The Catlins this summer.
1. Dolphins, sun, no crowds, boogie boards, and perfect child-friendly waves resulted in a great day out at Curio Bay.
2. Cave exploration – the boys were in heaven exploring the caves and the bush walk was an ideal way to expend that endless energy.
3. Camping with a touch of luxury, the Whistling Frog Camping Ground lived up to expectations and was finished off with good wine and bountiful paua, whitebait and blue cod cooked on the barbie.
4. Southern hospitality, nothing fancy just safe and friendly.
5. Nature at its best – unspoilt, no retail, no crowds, limited cell phone coverage….perfection.
Pure and simple, a trip back in time, relaxation and fun in the great outdoors. It made us realise you shouldn’t leave home until you experience what’s in your own backyard.
