Following glowing reviews, Penny Ashton’s one-woman show, Hot pink Bits, is set to hit Southland stages.

Reviewer Saelyn Guyton who saw the show last year said her stomach was aching and legs were sore after the bursts of self-slapping Ms Ashton enticed.

“A sure sign a comedian is good is when you’re hitting yourself uncontrollably in an attempt to shift the gut-cramp pain induced by laughter,” she said.

“Ms Ashton can do it all and kept the crowd of just under 100 people hilariously entertained for an hour and a half,” Miss Guyton said.

A review on edinburghguide.com described the performance as both thoughtful and passionate and referred to Ms Ashton as a fizzing, antipodiette powerhouse who bursts out of herself, on to the stage and into the audience’.

Penny Ashton and her Hot Pink Bits will be kicking off this year’s Southland Festival of the Arts on Friday, 16 April, 8pm at Invercargill’s Civic Theatre.

Shows are also scheduled for Saturday, 8pm at the Riverton Arts Centre and Sunday, 7pm at the Gore Little Theatre.

Tickets can be booked at TicketDirect for the Invercargill show, Riverton Arts Centre for the Riverton show and at Gore i-SITE for the Gore show.
