Nearly 800 student athletes from throughout New Zealand competed at the annual Uni Games in Invercargill from 13 – 16 April 2010.

The blustery Southland weather proved a challenge for cyclists and caused the cross-country mountain-biking to be moved from Bluff Hill to Sandy Point, but competitors still enjoyed the course. “They all came out smiling,” event manager Dave Brookland said.

Along with the athletes and over 100 volunteers in Invercargill, a further 270 rowers and fencers who were competing at venues in Waihola and Dunedin respectively, ventured south at the end of the week to participate in the medal presentations and closing ceremony.

Invercargill band Rhythmonyx opened for Opshop at Stadium Southland to celebrate the closing of the 2010 Uni Games.
