Over 2,300 crowded into Stadium Southland for a free concert by Prestige, world hip hop dance champions from Auckland making it one of the largest youth events ever held in the venue.
The Southland brand was overall co-ordinator of this community event that brought together the YMCA, Public Health South, the Southland District Health Board and Cancer Society to produce the concert.
The success of the concert was one part in the promotional opportunity afforded by Prestige’s visit – they also filmed a documentary that will screen on Maori Television and featuring Southland in a half hour episode. The documentary will screen in 2010.
Venture Southland’s Regional Identity Brand Manager Gerry Forde said “the event was a great tribute to our youth who performed brilliantly on stage, with others helping organise the concert through YMCA youth development. The massive audience of young people from all walks of life enjoyed fantastic Sunday afternoon entertainment."
"This is what Southland Spirit of a Nation is all about; celebrating the talent of our young people on stage and those who backed up Prestige or helped run the event. They can be proud of giving young Southlanders a great afternoon's entertainment,” said Mr Forde.
Did you go to the concert? What did you think? We’d love to hear your comments in the form below.
