Prime Minister John Key made a flying visit to Invercargill on Friday, 25 June but still had time to get a lesson in the art of chocolate making.
Mr. Key was in the region to speak at the Federated Farmers Annual Conference on the importance of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
The next stage of the ETS will be introduced this month and would mean a rise in electricity and fuel prices. Agriculture is set to be added to the ETS in 2015 but due to concerns raised by the industry about increased costs, the Government has promised a review of the scheme next year and in 2014.
Whilst in the region, Mr. Key also visited Political Society students at James Hargest College before having a go at making chocolates at The Seriously Good Chocolate Company.
At the conclusion of the visit, The Seriously Good Chocolate Company Manager, Jane Stanton, presented the Prime Minister with a selection of products from her company and other Southland businesses, including Back Country Foods and Invercargill Brewery.
Only in the region for a short time, Mr. Key said he wished he could stay longer but was due in Queenstown at 7pm to open the Winter Festival.
