The final of the Creative Southland Speech Competition was held on Thursday, 23 September, at Aurora College.
Venture Southland’s Creative Projects Manager, Angela Newell, said once again the high calibre of contestants made it difficult for the judges, Darren Ludlow, Liz Cruickshank and Gussie Johnson.
16 students showcased their talents during the final with results as follows:
Years 5 and 6: Benjamin Slee from Blackmount School came in first place with his speech about his Granddad, Timithi Alpin-Barrett from Mossburn School came second with a speech about Trolls and Tyler Brass from Windsor North School came third with a speech about the lies your parents tell you.
Years 7 and 8: Richard Crouchley from Fiordland College came in first with his speech about Energy, Claire Boniface from James Hargest College came second with her speech about why Santa is a criminal and Dan Stewart from Dipton Primary School came third with a speech about Crocodile Farming.
Two MC Choice awards for the most promising speeches went to Liam Turner from Mossburn School for his speech about Man Flu and Richard Crouchley from Fiordland College for his Energy speech.
