Stewart Island may be small in size, but it's big on hospitality!
Bay Motel owners, Brett and Jenny Twaddle, have won the 2011 AA Supreme Host of the Year Award.
The Automobile Association, in conjunction with the Motel Association of New Zealand (MANZ), presented the award at the MANZ Conference in Queenstown on 10 June 2011.
Venture Southland Tourism Marketing Coordinator Kerryn Smith said the award was fantastic news for Stewart Island.
“It’s a great opportunity for a Southland business to be recognised and to show the rest of New Zealand what kind of products we have in the south,” Miss Smith said.
Jenny and Brett Twaddle, owners/operators of Bay Motel since February 2008, said absolute comfort and enjoyment is their priority for those staying at the Bay Motel and on Stewart Island.
“Stewart Island provides a wonderful lifestyle and a great community, and we enjoy sharing that with visitors,” Mrs Twaddle said.
“After two years of dedication and hard work in the motel/tourism industry help was needed to keep visitors happy and we were fortunate to have Robin Campbell join us as Manager.”
Robin’s enthusiasm and strong work ethics helps Bay Motel to go the “extra mile” to give visitors the most from their stay through superior service, local knowledge, recommendation of activities and becoming their friend and confidante from arrival to departure.
Bay Motel beat out two other finalists for the award, Radfords Lakeview Motel in Te Anau and the Pacific Coast Motor Lodge in Whakatane.
