Westpac, in conjunction with Invercargill Parks and Reserves, is encouraging Southlanders to muck-in and help clean up Thomsons Bush.

Thomsons Bush is one of the last significant kahikatea reserves in Invercargill and it needs some work.

Southland Spirit of a Nation Brand Coordinator, Gerry Forde, will be MC for the event and is asking people to bring their spades and gloves and get involved.

“This event will show that community spirit is alive in Southland and that people can come together to make their place better to live in for all,” he said.

The clean-up will include weeding, painting, picking up rubbish, tidying the river bank, planting 1500 trees, putting up four new barbeque tables, three benches and erecting new signage.

Head along to Thomsons Bush on Saturday, 3 December from 9am-3pm to help the Westpac team and volunteers from other local businesses with the clean-up. There will be entertainment from local artists and a sausage sizzle for all volunteers from 12-1pm.
