113 volunteers turned up on Saturday, 3 December, to help clean-up Thomsons Bush in Invercargill.
Westpac, in conjunction with Invercargill Parks and Reserves, organised the clean-up of one of Invercargill’s last significant kahikatea reserves.
Southland Spirit of a Nation Brand Coordinator, Gerry Forde, was MC for the event and said 2,200 trees were planted and three picnic benches put in place.
“Groups worked on weeding exotic plants and trees out of the native bush, rubbish collectors worked around the main tracks and at lunch time we all sat in the sunshine on the bank of the overflow river and cheered as Mayor Tim was rowed up the river by Westpac Manager Murray Heath.
It was a transformation of Thomsons Bush, with stunning plantings, extra picnic benches and a huge tidy up that makes this significant native bush a compelling picnic spot for all,” Mr. Forde said.
