This week Southland will play host to a variety of talent straight from the World Buskers Festival in Christchurch.
The third annual Southland Buskers Festival kicks off on Thursday, 2 February and concludes on Sunday, 5 February.
Festival Manager, Jodi Wright, says Southlanders can experience some of the best street theatre acts in the world at this year’s festival.
“They’ve been having a great time in Christchurch but they are all eager to perform to Invercargill crowds and have a true ‘Southland’ experience,” she said.
This year’s line up includes:
The Lords of Strut
Two circus performers based in Cork, Ireland with multi disciplinary skills including juggling, manipulation, clown, dance, comedy and acrobatics.
The Circus Firemen
Angus and Matilda are The Circus Firemen. These two brothers have been performing together for 10 years and have delighted audiences across Australia and around the world with their high skill circus comedy show.
Las Cossas Nostra
Representing both Spain and Australian and mixing circus with physical comedy while drawing on absurd realities to create a seductive experience, La Cossas Nostra (Kiki and Amelia) create a high energy, hilarious and cutting edge show.
Hilby – The Skinny German Juggle Boy
Best described as a show without boundaries, Hilby is living proof that being German doesn’t mean you can’t be funny. Poetry in motion… the long and short of it is that you will love this Skinny German Juggle Boy!
Lindsay Benner
Lindsay’s performances showcase her wide variety of skills, which range from acting to physical comedy and juggling. She has toured around the world with her one-woman show and is a favourite among Los Angeles comedy clubs including The Ice House, The Comedy Store, and The Comedy Club.
Peter Mielniczek
All the way from London just to entertain us. He’s a goof and a clown and he’ll do anything to make the audience laugh, but he won't juggle.
Minnie Maniac
Returning to New Zealand after a worldwide tour, Minnie wants to be a cheerleader but when she puts on her outfit, her super confident alter ego takes over and creates a riot of fun.
The Copper Cowgirl
Sweet and Sassy, the Copper Cowgirl is a human statue from Canada with a unique blend of performance, comedy and character. Friendly, yet trigger happy, she rounds up people of all ages.
The Gold Man Statue
The Gold Man is a comedic mime originally from NZ. He breaks into action unexpectedly and creates funny scenes and crowd interaction with his range of mime, prop and comic skills.
Daytime performance areas include Wachner Place, Queen’s Park and the Farmers’ Market. Night shows – the Absolut Busker Comedy Nights, Civic Theatre Victoria Room, Thursday February 2, Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th from 8.30pm to 10.30pm (doors open at 8pm and entry is via donation).
