When it comes to pride and Southland spirit, we’re starting them young.
Pre-schoolers at the Queens Park Child Care Centre broke from the sandpit, paints and push cars on Friday 16 October to stand to attention for the inaugural raising of the new Southland flag.
A five spade salute accompanied the auspicious moment.
A positive attitude to the place and environment in which children live is crucial to their health according to Queens Park Child Centre teacher, Bex Sheehy.
“The kids love taking trips to the park and on the bus; they’re just so open to the sights and sounds and people of Southland,” said Miss Sheehy.
The spirit of play and the exuberance of youngsters is close to the heart of the Southland brand, according to Southland Spirit of a Nation brand co-ordinator, Gerry Forde.
“The free play of children is about relishing life, about experimenting, innovating – all core Southland lifestyle and business values,” said Mr. Forde.
The prime location of the flagpole just opposite Queens Park is a great opportunity to promote use of the Southland flag, he said.
