A group of 10 young Southlanders jet off today (Friday, 3 September) to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

The children will fly to the United States where they will spend 12 action and adventure packed days visiting theme parks, attractions, shopping and experiencing American cuisine.

The trip was made possible by Koru Care Southland, a group of committed Southland volunteers who dedicate their time to making dreams come true for children with illnesses and disabilities.

Through fundraising and the support of local sponsors, The Community trust of Southland, Invercargill Licensing Trust, Air New Zealand, Guardian Trust and Westpac, Koru Care Southland has been able to take a group of children on the holiday of a lifetime every year since its establishment in 1993.

The Money raised covers airfares, accommodation, entry to all attractions, meals, medical care and 24-hour caregivers, to ensure the needs of each child are met.

The latest trip will include shopping at Anaheim Market, an afternoon at Venice Beach, a visit to SeaWorld, California Adventure, Universal Studios, Legoland, Knott’s Berry Farm and two fun-filled days at Disneyland before returning to Invercargill on Friday, 17 September.
