Young Southland talent showcased at drama festival

Seven schools took part in the Invercargill Primary Schools’ Drama Festival on Monday, 6 September, delighting a big turnout at the Aurora College auditorium.

Adjudicator Stephanie Fletcher, who is a dancer and actress, had high praise for the children who performed mini plays from the School Journal.

The large auditorium meant younger children had to raise their voices and keep their face to the audience to be heard, important stage skills according to Ms Fletcher.

Southland Spirit of a Nation brand coordinator, Gerry Forde, helped train the St Theresa’s group with his daughter and teacher at St Theresa’s, Gemma Forde, and loved the experience.

“There’s nothing better than seeing kids go out on a limb with their talent and succeed in front of other schools, teachers and their parents – we are producing a confident generation of young Southlanders,” he said.

There was no judging or competition as the emphasis was on fun and participation.

The primary schools involved were St Joseph's, Ascot Community, Woodlands, St Theresa's, New River, Otatara and Donovan.
