Venture Southland is currently planning the 2009 May Arts Festival.

After Easter, 10,000, 28-page festival programmes will be distributed throughout the province, highlighting a host of arts events that will take place throughout May. The month long festival comprises local arts events along with specially designed and “imported” shows.

Creative Projects Manager at Venture Southland, Angela Newell said the festival is a step up from last year’s May Arts Month, which was a marketing campaign designed to highlight arts events over a concentrated period.

Tourists visiting Southland will have the chance to send home a video message from Tourism New Zealand’s mobile recording studio when it visits the region this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The world-first idea is giving international visitors around the country the opportunity to record a ‘rave’ about their time in New Zealand – and it is attracting attention around the world.

The ninth annual Shakespeare in the Park Production is brimming over with creativity as the cast and production crew work tirelessly to bring A Midsummer Night’s Dream alive for Southland audiences next week. (NB: season runs February 13-20).

Twenty three local actors are having a ball rehearsing daily, under the direction of Auckland-based professional, Anna Marbrook. With the popular romantic comedy in full swing, it is not just the actors reveling in the challenges, humour and creativity the show affords.
