Counting Down to Kick-Off
Invercargill is counting down the days until Rugby World Cup 2011. The opening match of the Tournament will see New Zealand play Tonga at Eden Park on September 9, 2011 and the following day Invercargill will kick off with Scotland v Play-off Winner at Rugby Park Stadium. Argentina will then v Play-off Winner at Rugby Park Stadium a week later on the 17 September.
Southland is particularly proud to be welcoming the Scottish Team and their supporters given our common heritage and those from Argentina because of our mutual interests in agriculture. The Play-off Winner will play two matches in Invercargill; this team will qualify in November 2010 and will be one of Romania, Ukraine, Tunisia, Uruguay or Kazakhstan.
Southland’s priority is to be a fantastic host city to the visiting teams and their supporters during the Tournament. A large number of international visitors are expected to travel to New Zealand for Rugby World Cup 2011 and there will be plenty of activities for tourists before, during and after the Tournament which will highlight Southland’s scenic attractions and show our visitors a great time.
Information about Invercargill and Southland’s Rugby World Cup 2011 involvement will be updated regularly.
