Lumsden Gym and the Northern Southland Development Trust

The Lumsden Community Gym was opened to the local community late 2007 after months of preparation and planning by the Northern Southland Development Trust and Amanda Senior. Since its opening, the number of gym memberships has far exceeded expectations.

Having a gym in Lumsden has provided an opportunity for not only local sportspeople and students, but also young mothers, the elderly, those recuperating from illness or injury and rural people to access these valuable resources. Amanda Senior, who currently operates the gym, hopes that in the future, it will become a hub for other integral community health related activities e.g. massage therapists, physiotherapy.

Venture Southland assisted all parties throughout the development and planning of this project. This included assisting with funding applications, developing lease arrangements, facilitating the process so all parties involved continued to work towards the end goal of providing the Community Gym.
