Northern Southland Meridian Open Day
A one-off opportunity to view the sheer scale and size of the Meridian Energy White Hill Wind Farm Development in Northern Southland attracted huge public interest with around 4000-5000 people attending on Sunday 4 February 2007.
Work on the construction of 29 wind turbines began in February 2006 and the Mossburn, Lumsden and Dipton communities, in association with Meridian Energy, held a one-off public open day that allowed entry on to the closed development site.
An organising committee worked for months planning the huge community gala fundraising event which would benefit ongoing future development of Northern Southland community projects.
Venture Southland assisted this organising committee with various support and resource. The significant proceeds of this successful day have been gifted to the Northern Southland Development Fund and are available for distribution to local and affected community groups.
