The 2011 Southland Tourism Seminar was held on Monday, 21 November at the Ascot Park Hotel. The all-day event was run by Venture Southland, and attracted around 60 tourism representatives who heard from industry experts.

How The Hell Did That Happen ~ A special feature of the seminar was local businessman Tony Laker, owner of Laker's House of Travel, revealing how (against advice) he started and built one of the most successful travel agencies in New Zealand.
His inspirational talk was peppered with humorous stories, motivational ideas and suggestions for attracting customers to a business. Tony happily supplied some of his favourite quotes for sharing:
