TRANSPORT
Daily bus services run to and from Southland with regular services to Fiordland, Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch. A selection of rental car companies operate from Invercargill. Regular ferry and air services connect the mainland with Stewart Island and Southland is serviced by flights from New Zealand’s major centres several times daily. Chartered flights are also available.

Alan Wilson, Daryl Paskell and Graeme Watson are a team of fly fishing guides with decades of experience and local knowledge of fly fishing and guiding in the Southland/Fiordland region.
The Southland Fly Fishing team are all members of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association.

Catlins Marine Encounters

Eastern Southland Gallery

Nicknamed the ‘Goreggenheim’ by Saatchi & Saatchi boss Kevin Roberts, the Eastern Southland Gallery is a public art museum, situated in the Arts and Heritage Precinct of Gore’s CBD.
It features the remarkable and internationally renowned John Money Collection, which includes paintings by Rita Angus and Theo Schoon (NZ), Lowell Nesbitt (USA), Bambarra, Dogon and Baga carvings from West Africa, and paintings and carvings from Elcho Island (Australia).
The Gallery is also home to one of the largest holdings of works by major New Zealand contemporary artist Ralph Hotere and presents a vibrant annual programme of temporary exhibitions. Art lovers will find bliss!

This complex explores the history of the Mataura Valley and highlights one of the area’s most notable features, the making of illicit ‘Hokonui Moonshine’. The Anderson Park Art Gallery was established in 1951 with a collection of high quality, representative New Zealand art.
More than 1,000 acquisitions range from early to contemporary works and are exhibited in the Georgian-style home of the late Sir Robert and Lady Anderson.
Designed by Christchurch architect Cecil Wood in 1924, the house is set in 24 hectares of landscaped gardens, lawns and native bush.
The property was gifted to the city of Invercargill by the Anderson family in 1951.

The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track is a 3 day loop walk that takes trampers along the south coast of New Zealand, up to the sub-alpine zone of the Hump Ridge, and over historic viaducts in the heart of native forest. Stewart Island Flights operates scheduled daily flights between Invercargill Airport and Halfmoon Bay, Stewart Island. The flight is quick - only about 20 minutes, comfortable and very scenic with panoramic views of Oreti Beach, the port of Bluff and Stewart Island's many bays, clear waters and offshore islands.
