TRANSPORT
Daily bus services run to and from Southland with regular services to Fiordland, Queenstown, Dunedin and Christchurch. A selection of rental car companies operate from Invercargill. Regular ferry and air services connect the mainland with Stewart Island and Southland is serviced by flights from New Zealand’s major centres several times daily. Chartered flights are also available.

The Southland Fly Fishing team are all members of the New Zealand Professional Fishing Guides Association.

Nicknamed the ‘Goreggenheim’ by Saatchi & Saatchi boss Kevin Roberts, the Eastern Southland Gallery is a public art museum, situated in the Arts and Heritage Precinct of Gore’s CBD. It features the remarkable and internationally renowned John Money Collection, which includes paintings by Rita Angus and Theo Schoon (NZ), Lowell Nesbitt (USA), Bambarra, Dogon and Baga carvings from West Africa, and paintings and carvings from Elcho Island (Australia). Anderson Park Art Gallery

The Anderson Park Art Gallery was established in 1951 with a collection of high quality, representative New Zealand art. More than 1,000 acquisitions range from early to contemporary works and are exhibited in the Georgian-style home of the late Sir Robert and Lady Anderson. Designed by Christchurch architect Cecil Wood in 1924, the house is set in 24 hectares of landscaped gardens, lawns and native bush. The property was gifted to the city of Invercargill by the Anderson family in 1951. Anderson Park Art Gallery is open daily from 10.30am to 5.00pm (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day).
